Cast Iron Stove Break-In Procedure

New cast ironing seasoning can be done two ways:

  1. Start oven at 325 degrees and place cast iron on rack. Every 30 minutes increase the temperature by 25 degrees until the oven is maxed out. DO NOT TOUCH THE CAST IRON, IT WILL BE HOT. Let the cast iron cool.

  2. Five small kindling fires, let fire cool between each burn.
These steps should be taken in order to prevent premature damage of cast iron. This will harden the cast iron for a full burn.

Please note; during the break-in period, some smoke and fumes will be evident as the stove paint cures. Be sure to allow plenty of fresh air into the room to alleviate this temporary condition.
